Who We Are
We are a collaborative artist team from Sydney, Australia, who are inviting artists, designers, curators and the people we meet on our travels to join us on our journey of exchange.
We are twin sisters that led very different lives until late 2005 when we stumbled upon a book on the long history of art, design
and advertising on Japanese matchboxes. With Leanne being a visual artist
and having a history of using matchboxes in her art practice, and Naomi’s
strong link to Japan through her career in tourism, media and education,
this helped inspire us to create the Match Box Projects. We decided we would
conduct an exchange between ourselves where we would see each others worlds, and
at the same time combine our skills to create an art project giving opportunities
for artists to exhibit and exchange.
Leanne created the first Match Box Gallery and we toured it through Sydney on Australia Day 2006 – the rest is history.
Our project has evolved into an ongoing series of art exhibitions, events,
education programs and cultural exchanges – Match Box Projects
